Homemade Sausage Gravy

Wonderful gravy for biscuits, country fried steak, hash browns, eggs....the possibilities are endless!

Ingredients

  • ½ lb mild breakfast sausage
  • 4 Tbsp reserved sausage grease or oil
  • ½ cup flour
  • cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Brown the breakfast sausage in a skillet.
  • Drain the sausage grease and measure 4 Tbsp into a medium saucepan. Add oil if needed.
  • Heat the grease over medium heat and whisk the flour in and continue to whisk for a minute to cook the flour a bit.
  • Add 3/4 cup of the milk to the flour mixture and whisk briskly until all lumps are gone. Then, whisk the rest of the milk in.
  • Continue to whisk the gravy over medium heat until it starts to thicken, 3-5 minutes.
  • Once the gravy starts to thicken, remove from heat and whisk in the salt, pepper, and sausage. Add more salt and pepper if needed per your taste.
