Equipment

  • Oven or Smoker

Ingredients

  • 1 Pizza dough crust
  • 1 pound ground beef or sliced steak
  • 1 pkg taco seasoning
  • cup water
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • ½ orange bell pepper sliced
  • ½ yellow bell pepper sliced
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 Tbsp salsa
  • 2 Tbsp Queso cheese dip
  • mozzarella shredded
  • sour cream

Optional Toppings

  • guacamole optional
  • tomato chopped
  • lettuce shredded
  • taco sauce
  • cilantro
  • dash of lime juice

Instructions

  • You will need pizza dough spread out on a floured pizza cooking tray. Try my recipe for Perfect Pizza Dough which makes 2 pizzas worth of dough.
  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet, drain the grease, then add the taco seasoning and water. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  • In a separate skillet, saute the sliced onions and peppers with a dash of salt and pepper until they are softened, about 5 minutes.
  • While the beef and veggies are cooking, prepare the cheese sauce. Mix 2 Tbsp mild salsa and 2 Tbsp queso cheese sauce together.

Assembly:

  • Once the dough is spread out over the floured pizza tray, spread the cheese sauce all over, leaving a small rim of dough untouched for the crust.
  • Next, add the shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Then, spread the taco meat and the sauted onions and peppers around the top of the pizza.

To Cook:

  • Option 1: My favorite option. Prep/turn on a smoker to 450° and cook the pizza for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melty and starting to brown, and the crust is crisp and golden.
  • Option 2: Preheat an oven to 450° and cook the pizza for 10-15 minutes until cooked as specified in option 1 above. (My oven's sweet spot seems to be around 12 minutes)
  • Once the pizza is cooked, drizzle sour cream and optional guacamole over the pizza, slice, and enjoy!

Notes

The smoker definitely adds an extra depth of flavor that the oven just can't reproduce. This is the smoker we use.
